Make your Teeth look like Teeth!
When you look in your mouth, do you see old black
fillings? Do you want your fillings to match your
teeth? Now you can.
The old way
The black fillings are silver-mercury amalgam
fillings. They have been used for over 100 years.
While they have served us well, they are not being
used as often today. Silver –mercury fillings turn
black with time and are not bonded to the teeth.
These fillings require tooth removal beyond the
decay to lock the filling into place. This may
weaken the tooth making tooth fracture more likely.
The new way
Composite fillings are tooth colored. Composite is a
hard plastic material that has a dough consistency.
The filling is glued/bonded into the tooth, giving
some strength back to the tooth. The filling is
“set” with a light and ready to eat on right away.
These fillings can be kept smaller because it is not
necessary to “lock them in.” They are bonded or
glued into place. Best of all they look like teeth.
No one knows you have them.
This patient had an old leaking, black
filling with a small cavity on the next
tooth. We restored both of these teeth with
tooth colored composite fillings.
These teeth look like teeth once again.
